When your ready to purchase CBD oil, you’ll see that CBD oils contain carrier oils mixed in with the CBD. Carrier oils serve an important purpose — to help deliver the active component — in our case, CBD — to the body.

There are many different carrier oils used in CBD products — coconut, MCT, palm, olive, avocado, hemp seed, sesame, and grape seed oil — each with their own set of positives and negatives.

One of the main reasons CBD oil manufacturers dilute hemp extracts like CBD in a carrier oil is to improve absorption in the gut or sublingual. This works because CBD is a fat-soluble substance. 

Hemp Carrier Oil The Best carrier oil - Hemp seed oil is cold-pressed extract from seeds. “Hemp seed oil, sometimes referred to as sativa seed oil, is perfectly good seed oil that’s high in antioxidants, omega-3 and -6 fatty acids.  You’ll usually find this oil in premium CBD oils that market themselves as being full-spectrum CBD, aiming to leverage the entourage effect wherever possible.

MCT Carrier Oil  - MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides,  MCT oil is most commonly extracted from coconut oil, as more than 50% of the fat in coconut oil comes from MCTs. They are metabolized differently than the long-chain triglycerides (LCT) found in most other foods. MCT oil is a supplement that contains a lot of these fats, and is claimed to have many health benefits.  MCT oil is derived from coconut or palm oil — which is naturally high in triglycerides made of medium-chain fatty acids like caproic acid (C6), caprylic acid (C8), capric acid (C10) and lauric acid (C12).

• A cost effective source of carrier oils
• Has a high solubility — allowing for high-potency CBD oils
• Absorbed quickly and efficiently through the digestive tract

Con's  

• Lacks additional phytochemicals and antioxidants compared to the hemp seed oil carrier.
• Offers little to no flavor. usually flavor is added i.e. mint, orange etc.

 Grapeseed oil -   As the name suggests, grape seed oil is extracted from the seeds found in grapes. This oil has a light fruity flavor and high unsaturated fat content. It’s known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which give it some added benefits when used as a carrier oil.

• Is a cheaper carrier oil.
• Offers antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. not as much as the Hemp seed oil offers.
• Rich in minerals and other phytonutrients.

Con's 

• Slower absorption time than MCT oil.
• Lower solvency than MCT oil.
• Lower quality compared to Hemp seed and MCT oil.
